Ethos committee

The Ethos committee at Old Sodbury CE School work very hard to maintain and improve the school's Christian distinctiveness. There are members of the governing body (foundation governors), parents and church representatives on this committee. As we are a Church school we have to continue to work to improve our links with the church and consider regularly our Christian school values and school ethos.

Our vision

“Let your light shine” Matthew 5:16

We believe that every child has the right to know what it feels like to be successful. We want our children to understand how special and unique they are and to recognise, with knowledge of God’s love, the power they have to change the world. We want them to be the best possible versions of themselves and to let their light shine.

Our values are the qualities that underpin our vision. To be the best they can be, we will teach our children the values of:

Courage “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Compassion “Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Colossians 3:12

Respect “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Matthew 7:12

Our aims exemplify our vision and values. To achieve their full potential, we want our children to be:

Courageous learners who seize opportunities, challenge themselves and have high expectations of what they can achieve;

Compassionate individuals who know how to stay safe, healthy and happy and who are empowered to make positive contributions;

Responsible citizens who value diversity and show respect for themselves, the environment and their communities.

Ethos Statement:

Old Sodbury CE Primary School aims to provide every pupil and member of our wider school community with an experience of Christian life and worship, fostering respect, attitudes of tolerance, care and forgiveness through our school values. We seek to celebrate our children's individuality and provide them with a safe, supportive and happy place within which to thrive and develop with a deeper knowledge and understanding of God's love for them.
